The cost involved in getting buildings virus-free and reinstating confidence doesn't sit well in a commercially stretched business.

Under the coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS), employers can reclaim 80 per cent of their employees’ wages up to £2,500 per month from the government, provided that the business has been severely affected by Covid-19. There are reports of workers receiving redundancy payments calculated on the basis of their furloughed rate of pay of 80 per cent, as opposed to their pre-furlough pay.

The government recently announced that it will be mandatory to wear a face mask in shops in England after 24 July. At the same time, Downing Street said it would keep the guidance on face coverings in other settings, such as offices, under review. So just how likely is it that the government will mandate mask wearing in the office?
